A new 3D show designed by the Center for Civil War Photography (CCWP) opened on August 7, 2010 at the Atlanta History Center. The 3D show is part of the Atlanta History Center’s new exhibit entitled “War in Our Backyards: Discovering Atlanta, 1861-1865.” The presentation runs for 12 minutes and contains 17 vintage stereoviews along with 5 modern stereoviews. The show includes narrative captions written by Gordon Jones, an original score written and performed by Jody Richter, and uses the “pan and zoom” technique which allows the viewer to become immersed in the view.
"FANTASTIC. The music is perfect! This sends chills down my back, and I’ve looked at it a dozen times or more – this is just what we needed in this exhibit. I cannot be more pleased," said Gordon Jones, Senior Military Historian and Curator at the Atlanta History Center.
Most of the vintage stereoviews used in the show were photographed by George N. Barnard. This presentation showcases Barnard’s stereoviews, which are often overshadowed by his large plate views.
“The contrast between 1864 Atlanta and the modern urban Atlanta is striking, which is part of the message of the new exhibit. It really makes the point that looking around at the modern Atlanta you would never imagine the history that's under your feet,” said the show’s designer, John Richter.
The exhibit will be on display at the Atlanta History Center in Atlanta, Georgia from August 7, 2010 – October 1, 2011. For more information on visiting the exhibit please visit the Atlanta History Center website: http://www.atlantahistorycenter.com/
